Michael Yurechuk, BCOM, MBA

Deregulation is complex, customers are frustrated, and energy contracts continue to increase in complexity. Our sole purpose is to protect our business customers, provide corporate budget stability and save our customers money.

President & CEO, Energy Engine Inc.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Michael is an energy deregulation expert and leading authority on energy procurement. With nearly a decade of energy experience he has held several senior management roles for some of the largest energy marketers in North America. Michael specializes in electricity and natural gas procurement, energy contract development, credit and risk policy development, energy profile analysis, national sales, and corporate governance issues.

Some of Michael’s energy career highlights include:

  • In 2004, as Commercial Account Manager for Direct Energy Business Services, Michael introduced the first Green Energy product into the Alberta marketplace and helped IKEA to protect its electricity price while reducing its environmental carbon footprint.
  • In 2005, Michael was responsible for one of the largest Canada-wide retail natural gas deals as he helped all of the YMCA locations across Ontario and Alberta achieve price stability and a predictable energy operating budget.
  • Michael started-up a retail natural gas marketing office in Alberta for CEG Energy Options Inc. and was responsible for managing all aspects of the business including sales, marketing, and operations. From 2006 to 2008 Michael built a large commercial customer base in excess of 300 customers representing nearly $75M in energy procurement revenues while acting as the Provincial Sales Director.
  • From 2008 to 2009, as Western Canadian Director of Sales and Marketing for Ontario Energy Savings Corp, Michael participated in a corporate re-brand and led the firm’s entry into commercial and industrial markets. He spearheaded activities relating to the development of commercial energy products, contract development, pricing development, and was responsible for the general management of all Commercial and Industrial sales and operations.

Prior to creating Energy Engine Inc., Michael was the Executive Vice President for a manufacturing firm where he led a fast paced strategic turnaround and corporate rebrand which resulted in improved operational processes, increased customer base and improved manufacturing efficiencies.

Michael is happily married and has two young children. He is involved in many community activities but his favorite is acting as head coach for his son’s hockey team.

I have been a part of the Executive Management Team who is responsible for developing and implementing the corporation’s strategic plan, vision, mission, key objectives, and action plans for a high growth Oilsands Services Company. This has led to an aggressive international expansion plan for current products and services along with introducing innovative game changing technologies to both the domestic and international markets. My responsibilities have been to develop the five year operational budget and ensure performance metrics, finances, and administration are all in alignment with the corporate strategy. My previous experiences have been with high growth companies requiring financial leadership for both domestic and international growth initiatives. I am currently a member of the board of directors and am the chairman of the audit committee for a publicly traded company.

Carol has over 25 years experience in Marketing and Communications working with a range of industries, both private and public including the water and power utility sector for over a decade. In the various positions she has held Carol has taken on responsibility for all aspects of the Marketing and Communication functions. Steven graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 1998 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 1999. In his legal career, Steven has worked for a provincial crown corporation, a private firm and, since 2008, as a sole practitioner. Past areas of practice include pensions/administrative law, civil litigation, family law and wills and estates. In 2008, Steven obtained his Real Estate Associate’s License to help his wife Darlene with her burgeoning real estate career and, in 2010, completed the Broker’s Course. Shortly thereafter, Steven and his wife opened Rock Point Realty, a fast-growing real estate brokerage operating in Edmonton, Alberta. Although maintaining a small legal practice, Steven is focused primarily on his duties as the Broker of Rock Point Realty and thoroughly enjoying his newfound work/life balance.

Brandon Van Unen

In 2006, Brandon transitioned to Titan Construction in the capacity of General Manager and was promoted to President and Partner of the firm after demonstrating his unique ability to effectively lead a strategic turnaround. Under his management he increased revenues, improved operations, improved customer relations and built a high performance construction team. Brandon has helped Titan Construction has become a leading company within the disaster restoration and construction industry.
